Camp Sheldrick

The camp is within a half hour distance of Ottawa.  Winchester is close for shopping.  The camp can be used to launch canoes to the Nation River.  The camp is 55 Acres with groomed sites on the south side of Hess Creek and wilderness camping on the north side.  The groomed sites have fire pits.  On the south side there is three flag poles, a basketball court, volleyball court, two KYBO’s (pit toilets), covered pavilion 40’ x 60’ which can be enclosed with tarps (which are kept in the cabin), four season heated cabin, open play area, wooded area, chapel and council camp fire.

Property Details

Wilderness Camp Featuring:  55 acres of woods and fields straddling Hess Creek, at the Nation River; open area for large groups and wide games; covered pavilion and chapel; four season headed sleeping cabin for 24 youth and 4 adults (sleeping wooden bunks, need to bring mats).

Program Activities and Sites

Program opportunities include pioneering, orienteering/GPS geo-caching, nature education, canoeing (need to bring own canoes), survival skills, camping skills and much more.  Broomball equipment on site (in cabin).  There is a frame to use for archery (need to bring all other equipment).  Great hill for sledding (bring your own).

Buildings and Locations

Heated sleeping cabin for 24 youth/4 adults beside the covered 40' x 60' covered pavillion with plenty of picnic tables.

The property is best suited for all sections (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers). Six campfire rings available.  Please use established fire pits only.



No potable water on site. No electicity, except by generator for the lights in the cabin.

In 1984, Bill Sheldrick had a dream.  That dream was to create a place where area Scouts could go and have fun in a safe outdoor learning environment.  By partnering with South Nation Conservation who signed a lease with Scouts Canada, Camp Sheldrick was born.

Home to a Bi-Annual camp with Troops from the United States.


Off highway 31 (Bank Street) south of Winchester.  About 40 minutes from Ottawa and 20 minutes from highway 401 south towards Morrisburg.
