Event Description

Scouting’s annual Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) will take place on October 18 to 20, 2019.  JOTA and JOTI are the largest annual “on-air” and “on-the-internet” gatherings of Scouts of all ages who gather together for fellowship and to meet with new friends around the world by two-way radio, or on the internet. The Scouts Canada National Museum will be holding an Open House to invite Voyageur Scouts from every program, families, Scouters, and Groups to join us and participate in the fun. Our Scouts Canada Amateur Radio Station, call sign VE3SHQ, will be operating under the guidance of our designated Amateur Radio Operator and his team for the whole weekend.

In 2018, the World Scouting Organization reported that 144 countries participated in these events involving more than 1.5 million youth and 300,000 adult Scouters, for a total of almost 1.9 million participants.

Scouts Canada’s participation in 2018 totaled over 3,500, or 3,800 including Les Scouts, and contacts were made in almost 300 locations in over 60 countries in the world. Our own Radio Station (VE3SHQ) made contacts with 48 locations, seven in Canada, 36 in the USA, and five in Europe. And youth who visited us at our Museum made contacts with 70 countries on six continents via “Webchat” on “Scout Link”. We hope that interest in JOTA/JOTI will grow in Canada and that participation by our Amateur Radio Station will help contribute to this growth.

The Open House venue will be at the rear of the Main Museum Room at Scout Headquarters. Open House hours will be Friday from 8:00 to 10:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. For those interested in Amateur Radio, information will be available about the requirements for becoming an Amateur Radio Operator, and about study courses that would assist you in earning your certification. We invite you to join us, and encourage you to come proudly wearing your Group neckers. Scouts Canada usually provides for the availability of nice JOTA/JOTI participation cards.
