Event Description

Course dates: May 1-3, and May 8-10.

NOTE: Basic Instructor course is a 48 hour course over 5 days **100% attendance is required

This event location is not available for camping for those from out of town.

Bring your own paddles, pfd, and canoe or *rent

This course is open to all Scouters as well as Venturers, and Rovers age 16+. This course will also be open to other organizations who require this qualification to run their programs.

Registration: All registration forms (inc. Non-Member Physical Fitness Form) and payment must be submitted through the Voyageur Council Office before April 14, 2020.

Note: Max class size is 10 (6 positions will be reserved for Loyalist Area members until 31 March). There are positions reserved for qualified youth.

Prerequisites:

  • at least 16 years of age
  • ORCKA Basic Level 1 – 4
  • Or comparable skills & experiences – with permission from Director – Steve Tripp, 613 583-5268 or wildernesstripping@gmail.com.

The Basic Instructors course provides you with the recognized provincial certification from ORCKA (Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayak Association).

As a Basic Canoe Instructor, the successful candidate will be qualified to instruct and administer ORCKA Basic Canoeing Levels 1-2-3-4 courses, instruct at a Safe Canoeing Program, instruct at a Camp Canoeing Instructors Course, and instruct (assist) at a Basic Canoe Instructors course.

As a bonus, those who meet the standards will also earn the ORCKA Canadian Style Paddling Level 1 (A-Tandem) and (B-Solo) certifications. Evaluation of paddling skills will be ongoing throughout the entire course.

Loyalist Area Youth (16+) and Scouters: $100; Other Scouting Members: $630 per person
