Council COVID Update -- Jan 9, 2021

Voyageur Council COVID Update
January 9, 2021
All Groups in Voyageur Council in Stage 1
No in-person Scouting at this time so take advantage of some great digital resources!
Welcome back Scouters!
We've finally arrived in 2021 and made it to the start of a new Scouting year! 2020 was a year full of surprises, challenges, new adventures, and finding new solutions. We hope that you had a safe, healthy, and well-deserved holiday over the past couple of weeks, and that you're looking forward to providing more youth with incredible Scouting program in 2021!
As you are likely aware, the governments of both Ontario and Quebec have implemented strict COVID restrictions which extend well into the month of January. This means that our Scouting year is starting with all Groups in Voyageur Council in Scouting Stage 1. For more information about current provincial restrictions from the government, you can access the Ontario COVID-19 website or the Quebec COVID-19 website.
These limitations don't mean that we aren't still Scouting though! There are some fantastic resources available for Scouters with all Sections, and Scouters across the country (and the world) have been sharing their ideas with each other online and over social media.
  • Are you looking for some new ideas for your Section's activities? Why not check out the the Scouts Canada Activity Finder, which provides a way to search, categorize, and look-up activity ideas! It contains hundreds of ideas that you can do with your Sections, providing assisted program for you throughout our winter months! There were also a lot of great ideas discussed during Know-vember 2020 at Virtual ScoutCon, and though ScoutCon is over, recordings of all of the sessions presented will be available soon through the David Huestis Learning Centre!
  • We're also starting a new virtual Scouting Group for the whole Council! Look below for more information and who to contact to be part of the team.
  • There are some amazing new learning modules for youth too! The Great Canadian Scouting Adventure is your chance to explore the wonders of the natural world and the rich history all around us! We’re excited to launch this new series of virtual learning modules about Canada and the world, thanks to the support of Heritage Canada. To find out more, go to There, youth will be engaged in interactive discussions and activities around parks, historic sites, Canadian and world heritage. These modules will display local culture, history and the environmental biodiversity of these sites.
  • Camping is a large part of Scouts and just because we can't get together to camp doesn't mean that we can't camp together: check out The Great Scout Campout, hosted by 1st Bayridge for Scouts across Council! For more details on this camp, please visit their website at
  • Coming Jan 29, 30 and 31, it's the Great Scout Campout. The Great Scout Campout is an opportunity for Scouts to camp, and connect virtually with other Scouts.
  • The camp will be running from 6:30pm on Jan 29th until 9am on Jan 31. Scouts and Scouters will be able to chat via Zoom with other Scouts and Scouters, and participate in individual challenges like building a temporary shelter, and cooking a small meal.
  • Scouters: this camp is a great opportunity for the youth to work on their Outdoor Skills, experiencing winter camping (while having a warm house to warm up in), and to show their independence. While we will be offering some challenges and activities, we encourage you to use this opportunity to do some activities and challenges with your Troop.
  • Let's get 2021 off to a great start! With registration open, we'd ask that all of our Scouters and Groups speak to their parents and youth and encourage them to register their youth for 2021, if they haven't already. We will continue to offer adventurous, engaging program in 2021 and we want to make sure that everyone who wants to take part can do so! Ensuring our youth are registered before the start of the Scouting year will help your Section and Group plan your activities and needs in advance, and encouraging registration now can help get kids energized and excited to return to Scouting in 2021.
  • We understand that the pandemic has impacted the financial realities of some of our families, and the No One Left Behind (NOLB) fund is there to help make sure they can continue to participate in our program. The application process is straightforward, and it can be found at:
  • Youth need our program today more than ever, and if they wait until in-person Scouting returns, there may not be any available spots for them to take part in our activities and adventures! While we are limited to virtual Scouting at the moment, it's important to get youth registered now to plan for 2021 and to ensure they remain Active in MyScouts.
  • Missed out on the Raising Resilient Children webinar with Dr. Hanely-Defoe but still want to see what it was all about? You can watch a recording of the webinar through the David Huestis Learning Centre!
  • Wondering about Scouts Canada's goals and plans for all the Scouting properties across the country? After listening to and engaging with members throughout the organization, A New Vision for Scout's Canada's Camps has just been released and details all the survey results and feedback received from members across the country (including many from Voyageur).
  • Check out the training modules available through the David Huestis Learning Centre including recordings of the KNOW-vember ScoutCon Sessions and Welcome Back to Scouting 2020 for great tips, tricks, and resources for virtual and outdoor Scouting.
Please note that for all Scouts Canada Groups in Ontario, camping remains prohibited regardless of Stage.
Please review all standards that apply to your Group and reach out to your Group Commissioner or Relationship Manager with any questions you have.
This message, as with our previous emails, will be made available on our Council COVID page and on our Facebook Group.
As everyone gets settled in to 2021, we'll be back providing weekly COVID updates to the Council. If there's anything that you feel could be added to these emails to make them better and more helpful for everyone, please reach out to the CK3 (emails below).
