You are invited to submit your application for the volunteer position of Council Commissioner for Voyageur Council.

The Council Commissioner is the leading volunteer for Scouting in Voyageur Council. Voyageur Council spans the territory from Petawawa to Kingston to the Quebec border, and includes communities in and around Gatineau, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario.

Working closely with the other two members in the Council Key 3 (Council Youth Commissioner and Council Relationship Manager), the Council Commissioner is responsible for supporting and growing the Scouting movement in Voyageur Council, as well as being a vital member of the National Service Team and setting the direction for Scouting in Canada.  

The Council Key 3 (CK3) works together in partnership to provide support and to ensure safe, high-quality programs are being delivered to the Groups in Voyageur Council. Members of the CK3 share their responsibilities and partner appropriately with each other to coordinate their strategy, actions, and communications with volunteers, employees, youth members, and other stakeholders.

Appointed by and accountable to the National Key 3 of Scouts Canada, this position requires a time commitment of 40 - 50 hours per month. The appointment is for a one-year term, renewable for a maximum of three years. Travel throughout the Council to attend meetings and events will be required as Public Health Guidance permits. A substantial part of the role is virtually-based at this point in time due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

With the completion of the term of the current Council Commissioner, Voyageur Council is seeking an individual with lots of energy, excellent time management skills, and strong relationship building skills to assume the role. 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience leading professional or volunteer teams to achieve established goals;
  • Demonstrated leadership, management, problem solving, delegation and decision-making skills;
  • Proven ability to inspire confidence, team effort and leadership in others
  • Effective interpersonal and excellent communication skills;
  • A strong Scouting background or volunteer experience in a similar organization;
  • Registered or ability to become an active member of Scouts Canada.
