Event Description

We have exciting news for everyone! Yes, the traditional Scouting Year is almost over, but now is the time to look forward to your needs for the coming year.

The question we have for you is: Do all your groups have Group Commissioners, and have those GCs all taken the necessary training to help them succeed?

If not, here is an opportunity to get them up to speed and ready to lead the way.

Voyageur Council is putting on a Group Commissioner Wood Badge 1 at Baxter Conservation Area from August 25-27, 2017.

This course will reflect the new Canadian Path and the 5 Outcomes and will be a weekend, residential course.

Who is running the course? Ken Shore is the Course Lead and Heather Shore is the Course Administrator. Along with them will be a select group of trainers, some of the best in the country. The experience of this team includes Past or Current members of the Council Leadership Team, Group Commissioners, Area Commissioners, and all have trained on previous Group Commissioner courses.

Prerequisites for registration/attendance:

  • WB1 in a section – either in-person or Canadian Path
  • Supporting the Program – on Canadian Path
  • Scouters working together – on Canadian Path
  • Interview training
  • Crucial Conversations – in commissioners training in Canadian Path
  • Volunteer screening – in commissioners training in Canadian Path
  • Canadian Path Fundamentals

How do I register? The registration deadline is August 18, 2017. The course must have 10 participants to run successfully, and cannot accomodate more than 30 participants.

Please have Participants send a copy of the registration form to Ken and Heather so that they can track the registrations.

Their emails are:  ken.shore@scouts.ca and hshore@scouts.ca.

The registration fee is $100.00, payable at the council office. This fee includes catering for the weekend.

***** Any allergies (food or other), or other medical concerns must be conveyed to Course Lead 1 week prior to the course start.  *****

Note that as this is a residential course, participants will be sleeping over for the weekend. Participants are encouraged to use tents to get the full outdoor experience of Baxter.
